In case you have not heard…

Conrad and I are now parents to a beautiful baby boy named Kole Thomas Shepherd.  He was born on February 4 at 2:30pm weighing in at 8 poundes and 20 3/8 inches long.   Conrad was amazing (from what I can remember) through the entire process and I am so happy to now see him as a father to our son…priceless!  I am recovering well but can’t wait to feel back to normal.  I am still having trouble posting pictures but maybe my sister can help me when she is visiting next week.

Three long days…

Since Saturday night I have been dealing with a really bad migraine that just wouldn’t go away.  Saturday night I phoned Labour and Delivery asking if I should come in as I thought it might be affecting my blood pressure.  They said I could come in if I wanted to but I decided to try and fight it and go back to sleep.  The next night (during Super Bowl, grrr!) it came back again but this time much worse.  Both Conrad and I decided that we should go in and at least get my blood pressure checked.  We went in and I had a non-stress test done, urine analysis, blood pressure, blood work, an intervenus of pain medication (that didn’t work) and finally they gave me Tylenol 3’s.  My blood pressure was a bit up but it ended up going back down and they said I should be fine.  So I took the T3’s and went home.  I had a horrible sleep, once again, and woke up with the migraine still there.  The migraine finally got bad enough that it made me quite sick to my stomach so we decided to go back into the hospital.  It took them a while to figure out what they should do as a next step and the Obstetrician spoke with an Emergency doctor as to what route we should take…this lead to a very painful needle of morphine in my butt…it was wonderful!  So I had a great sleep all night last night and a two hour nap this afternoon.  The migraine is now gone but I am still a little sensitive.  Now if I could just have the excuse of being in labour to go to the hospital, I would be happy!

But, in other news, throughout my migraine ordeal on the weekend, we have also been dealing with a very sick dog.  He started severally dragging his right hind leg on Saturday evening as if it had something to do with his hip.  He didn’t seem in pain, as he never whimpered, but you could tell he was not at all comfortable.  We kept an eye on him on Sunday and tried to keep him laying down in one place until we could take him to the Vet on Monday.  Conrad took him Monday morning and it turns out that he has arthritis in his spine.  At this point all we can do is keep him on drugs and hope that he returns to his old self, which is highly unlikely, but maybe until after this baby comes and we can deal with it then.  The Vet wants us to go to Saskatoon to see a specialist and possibly discuss surgery but unfortunatley that will cost $4000, that of which we do not have.  She also said that she has never seen such a young dog (2.5 years old) have arthritis like this and thinks that it has been there since birth.  She also mentioned that she practices homepathy (?!) and said that we could consider trying that.  This could not have come at a worse time but please please please pray for Moses as we are not ready to loose him…he hasn’t even become a big brother yet!

Thanks in advance.

These days…

I have been off work for two weeks now and there is still no sign of baby.  I have kept quite busy with cleaning the entire house, cooking, baking, visiting friends, picking out cupboards, countertop, lights and paint for out new house and most recently picking up my family from the airport and running around with them.  My mom flew in on Wednesday, my sister flew in on Thursday, my older brother came into town Thursday night and my dad flew in on Saturday.  It is so nice to see them all as I can’t believe it has been five months since we saw my parents!

There has been no signs of labour as of yet and I am now three days past my original due date.  Conrad asked me the other day if I could please go into false labour so that we know at least something is happening…I thought that was quite funny!  Last night I was up most of the night with a migraine and today it is still lingering.  I am not used to not being able to drug myself when having a migraine!

In other news, late last night Moses (our dog) injured himself (not sure how).  We think it is his hip as he is not bending his right back leg but instead dragging it around and sometimes falling over due to being unbalanced.  It is super sad to watch but we can not take him to the vet until tomorrow.  This is not something that we really have budgeted for lately, due to the baby coming, so I really hope it is nothing that will need surgery because in that case, I am not sure what we will do.  I know I am getting ahead of myself thinking that it could be really serious but if you saw him right now, you would too!

I hope that once the baby comes and we are getting settled at home, that I will update this with pictures and the story of how labour went as soon as I can…I hope that happens sooner rather than later though!

Also, congratulations to our friends, Simon and Laura, who welcomed their son, Liam, into the world on Jan. 16, he is a cutie!
